What do you suggest as a second hand budget car for high mileages?

I am looking to replace my current car with a budget of no more than £6000. The requirements are an estate or SUV with good boot space (dogs annd camping gear) and for it to be an automatic diesel. I have been thinking of a Skoda or Volvo XC90. Would these be good options for a cheap car which can do high mileage? My current car has done just under 200,000 miles which is what I would do with this one.

Either would serve you well, but we'd go for an estate over an SUV unless you need the ride height etc, for the sake of efficiency and also purchase price, because even older XC90s aren't as cheap as you might imagine and maintenance is costly. A Skoda Superb estate would be a great choice and will have ample room for your camping gear. These cars are favoured by taxi drivers so it's not uncommon to see cars for sale which have had no problem getting up to high mileage - in fact we've just seen several for sale that have made it beyond your 200,000-mile mark (including a couple that have done over 250k!)
