A new small car

I am looking to part exchange my Land Rover Freelander (2005 -05 plate diesel, 49,000 miles) for a new car with five doors, diesel engine, long warranty, cheap road fund licence and low emissions. I do not need four wheel drive and I drive about 12,000 a year, mainly local runs of 10-15 miles, but with some long journeys of up to 400 miles.

I am quite tall (almost 6ft). I have tried the KIA Rio and thought it seemed ok, but didn't like the Mazda 2.

I have about £6k plus the part exchange value of the Freelander to spend. What would you recommend and what should I expect to get for the Freelander in part exchange?

The KIA Rio is about to be replaced with a new model anyway.

Maybe a Hyundai i20 diesel is the answer, if your money stretches to one.

A Mazda 2 is at its best as the 1.3TS2 (specifically that model). £30 tax. Surprised you didn't like it, but understand if you were put off by the hard ride.

You could also consider a Hondas Jazz 1.2 for practicality and fuel economy.
