citreon xsara picasso indicator fault

My 03 Citroen Picasso exclusive has a problem with the light/indicator stalk; when operating the indicators the lights come on, I think the unit is at fault. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advise would be really helpful as the unit I need costs £189.00, so I want to make sure it's definatly the unit at fault before I go ahead and buy the part.

A lot of PSA cars had problems with the indicator switches, but I cannot categorically state that replacing it will cure this fault.
