How does the ACT system work on 1.5 litre VW vehicles?

I have a Skoda Octavia 1.5.TSI Evo ACT. These engines are fitted with ACT, meaning when at certain times the 4 cylinder engine reduces to running on 2 cylinders. Do you have any information when and at what speeds this comes into operation, in my case it seems to be over 60 mph but seems hard to keep it running on the 2 cylinders for any distance.

The Volkswagen Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) system is designed to operate between engine speeds of 1400rpm and 4000rpm, and torque outputs of between 25Nm and 100Nm, so this is generally activated only on light throttle applications at steady speeds.
