Why is the dealer not shown as a previous owner on the V5C?

I'm buying a used car. The dealer has the V5C certificate in the name of the previous owner and not in the name of the dealer. Is this correct? Should the dealer not be the registered keeper of the vehicle?

A registered car dealer will usually take ownership of a car under trade terms, so when they purchased the vehicle they will use the yellow slip on the V5C rather than the green slip, so this is not an unusual occurrence.

If you have any doubts about the vehicle you could pay for a vehicle history check or contact the previous owner using the details shown on the V5C.
