What would you suggest as a cheap towing car?

I have about £6500 (including trade) to spend on something bigger to replace my Vauxhall Corsa. I need something that's able to tow our track cars (a 2003 MINI Cooper S and an MGB) on the odd weekend and spend the rest of my time driving mainly in town with bi-weekly jaunts on the M25. I'd prefer something with cruise control and if possible something relatively mechanically simple that I could do most of the maintenance of consumables on myself.

Your budget would give you a choice of medium and large estate cars around 10 years old, so it would depend if something this age is mechanically simple enough for you to work on or if you would need something a bit older.

We would suggest cars like the Skoda Octavia, BMW 5 Series, Ford Mondeo or Volvo V70 would suit your needs, but it is important to check the total weight of your trailer and vehicles to ensure it does not exceed the maximum towing weight of these vehicles.
