Can I still drive my car while waiting for my new licence from the DVLA?

I applied for a renewal driving licence on the 1st April 2022. I had no joy so sent it on paper form. My licence ran out 18th May 2022. Can I still drive my car waiting for my new licence? On the form they didn't ask for my old photo licence. Is this usual practice?

Yes, you should be able to continue driving under Section 88 of the Road Traffic Act for 12 months from applying to the DVLA, provided certain conditions are met, including that your doctor hasn't told you not to drive. This guide outlines the other conditions you need to meet: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upload...f

You should send your old photo licence back to the DVLA when a new one has been issued.
