Is fuel from Shell and BP better quality?
I normally buy from Shell regular unleaded. Is there a difference in quality from companies like Shell and BP compared to supermarket fuel?

Shell and BP will tell you there is but for the vast majority of cars on the road (performance cars and some classics excluded), standard fuel is more than adequate. All fuel - branded or non-branded - has to meet the same legal standards in the UK.

A friend has suggested that I use the above but would welcome your comments. I drive a BMW 420i cabriolet auto and a Toyota Aygo X auto. I rarely use supermarket petrol and mostly use BP or Jet.
I live in a rural area and drive a 2006 Land Rover Defender td5 and a 2012 Land Rover Discover 4, both diesel powered. I think it's best for the environment if I keep these on the road as long as possible....
In answer to another question it was suggested that a fuel stabiliser could be used if the petrol engine is not much used. Any suggestions as to which fuel stabiliser?
