Replacing a Mazda6 TS2 diesel engine - any pitfalls?

The original engine in the car has developed a loud knock soon after turbo replacement. Mazda agents have said they cannot determine the cause without stripping down. I cannot afford this! Paid £7000 for car less than a year ago, plus £1400 for a new turbo. Is amateur engine replacement feasible or is computer equipment needed? Don't know what to do for the best.

When you say amatuer engine replacement, are you saying that you or a non skilled person will change the engine?

To achieve this, you will need a garage with lifting equipment, a good set of tools, a workshop manual and at least two of you.

If you are considering swapping the engine, where are you getting the exchange engine from? How much is that costing versus the cost of the Mazda agent's stripping the engine down?
