Do I have to replace my windscreen?

I seem to have acquired a very fine scratch across the windscreen of our Lexus ES, probably from a fine piece of grit on the wiper blade. It is only visible when driving into the low winter sun. I have tried to polish it out with car polish but this has had little, if any, effect and I am nervous of using anything more abrasive.

I had to have a screen replaced on our last Honda Civic. The sensors which were stuck to it made the job a real 'performance'. I was stunned at the cost. I am not keen to repeat that route.

Do you any suggestions?

I would suggest finding a local smart repairer to see if they can fix it without you needing a windscreen replacement. This will depend on the position and size of the scratch.
