Lessor evil

We live overseas, but intend coming to UK (mainly Scotland) each summer for 3-4 months and possibly a further 2 weeks later in the year. A car is essential, but is there a more cost effective way other than buying a small reliable, newish runabout (I'd prefer an automatic). If not, what would you suggest?

You can't own a car in the UK without a UK address to register it to. Fortunately you can register it to a friend's house. You don't have to be a resident as you do in Spain. Cheap cars became dearer due to the fall in Sterling creating an export trade in UK used cars. And old cheap cars are getting wiped out by the scrappage scheme. Realistically, leasing is probably the best way. Try www.dsgauto.com
