Post ‘it’ Note

We want to replace our from new 'T' reg automatic Rover 400 because of rust spots - roof, wheel arches and bonnet. Our daughter has mobility difficulties and we need to carry a wheelchair from time to time so boot space is important as is automatic. We are thinking 2nd hand and have in mind a 2009 Ford Titanium at £13,000 or an '08' Honda Civic 1-8i VTEC ES at £14,000, favouring the latter with some recognition yet to come on both for our trade-in Rover. However, with advancing years (my wife and I are both late 60's) we might be tempted by the slightly smaller Nissan Note Tekna and go for NEW at £13,000 after scrappage. Any thoughts or suggestions you could give us on all this would be very much appreciated.

I'd go for the new Note Accenta (+ Connect satnav) rather than the Tekna because it comes on smaller wheels with deeper profile tyres so the ride quality is better. Or think about a new KIA cee'd or Hyundai i30 1.6 auto SW. They both do fantastic scrappage deals. Latest cee'd video tested in Liverpool at: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=404
