I want to downsize my car. Should I buy new or nearly-new?

I'm downsizing from a diesel Skoda Karoq as I no longer need a large car. I want a smaller car, preferably a crossover/SUV with a similar drive height. I manage around 3000 miles each year. I can afford a new car, but should I go for a nearly new model instead? Petrol or diesel?

It's a tricky one – most smaller cars will have a lower drive height. You could try a Volkswagen T-Roc, it's a bit smaller than a Karoq with a fairly high drive height. We'd recommend a petrol, electric or hybrid model for your mileage. You'd save money by buying a nearly-new – and there are some lengthy waiting lists for new cars at the minute.
