CRVous bodily harm

I am thinking about replacing my CR-V diesel 2006 32,000 mileage. I don't need 4-wheel drive, although it is nice to have. I need a car capable of returning over 40mpg. I currently average 41mpg in the CRV. I need the carrying capacity of the CR-V but do not need to tow. A seat height above that of a normal saloon, but not necessarily as high as the CR-V. Costs? My car plus £5k - £10k. Any suggestions, please?

I got well over 40mpg over 6 months in the current model CR-V and enjoyed the considerable comfort it offers. It has far better ride and handling than the old model, and cavernous inside. Alternatively, the new Renault Scenic and Grand Scenic are excellent third generation MPVs with useful features like built in SD card satnav that shows speed limits and cameras for just £500 extra and an very efficient chain cam water-cooled turbocharged Nissan derived 1.4 petrol engine that is much more pleasant at low revs than the diesel.
