Scrap meddle

My wife and I are around retirement ages. We live in WC1, but drive frequently to Devon, sometimes with loads: either family or furniture. Either way the load tends to be bulky and, sometimes heavy. We also drive abroad once or twice a year. We have been driving a Renault Scenic, which I hate. It was a compromise choice from my point of view. We have had three cars that I've enjoyed: a FIAT berlina, an Alfa Sud, and a Citröen CX, which were all good to drive. Other cars have been so-so. We now want an estate, although not a huge one and want to take advantage of the cash allowance on old for new cars. In addition, Skoda and, perhaps, other companies have a zero interest 3-year payment scheme. I remember how your column regularly recommended the Skoda TDi 1.9TD and I wonder if you think this would be a good buy for us. Naturally, value for money is important, but so it a relatively quiet ride and comfortable ride. And are there any other models and models that we should consider. I hope you can offer some advice. Much appreciated if you can.

You must mean the Octavia or the Roomster. I have never been a fan of the Fabia or Fabia estate. I would suggest that one of your best bets is a KIA Cee'd 1.4 from just £7,995 with a 7 year warranty. Obviously SWs are more, but that gives you an idea. Mazda is offering scrappage and 0% finance on the Mazda 2 and Mazda 3. All manufacturer scrappage deals are published them in the news at www.honestjohn.co.uk
