I tried Shell V-Power to see if it made any difference to mpg, largely because of your newspaper column. I drove back to the UK from Frankfurt in my 1998 Merc CL500 last week, averaged 136km per hour, and got an astonishing 10.63 litres per 100km. Made it all the way back on one tank of petrol. Great advice, thanks.

Excellent. Thanks for the affirmation. Just watch out for speed traps in the Calais area.

I've just read an article saying that you should always fill fuel up to the top rather than filling halfway or less otherwise it could create issues in the long term when it potentially pumps debris, sediment...
You mention in the current stats that newer cars fair worse on fuel economy compared to official figures - do you have the average drop for newer models from 2008?
On my way home, I drive up a hill with a steady gradient. Is it better for fuel consumption to drive up on a heavy throttle in fourth or on a light throttle in third?
