Limiting factor

I believe I may have been flashed by a forward facing traffic camera doing between 35-40mph today in an area, which I then found to be 30mph. The route is the A62 AKA Manchester Road in Oldham. I travelled approx 1.5 miles heading north/east bound from the junction with the M60. If I remember correctly, the camera is situated around Cambridge Street, around 1 mile from the junction of the M60. Over this 1-mile stretch, I do not recall seeing a single speed limit sign (I re-drove the route to check). The road is laid out with two lanes travelling each way with a grass divide between each pair of lanes. There is a mixture of homes and open area over the route so it is unclear (in my opinion) as to the classification of the road. Are you aware of any fixed requirements for distances for speed limit signs?

There don't have to be speed limit signs in a 30. It's how increasing numbers of drivers are being caught. They move the 30 limits ever outwards. You find yourself driving on a road you can't believe would be a 30 limit. But unless there are 40mph or 50mph repeater limit signs, then it is 30. And before you know it you’ve been trapped. But if you re-trace your route and find that the 30 limit sign is obscured even partially by vegetation then photograph the sign, take your case to court and you will probably get off.
