Week argument

Having been made redundant last month, my company car has to go back when I start another job. I have very fortunately found an office job with no car for the 13 week initial trial. My question to you is.
Short term rent-a-car for 3 months, or buy an older car for 3 months?
It would mean a round trip of 32 miles a day, mostly motorway or dual carriageway. No preference for petrol or diesel. Only myself in the car. If you advise buying, I have got £5k max to spend, but would rather not spend this sort of money.
