Un-full-filled

A couple of colleagues reckon that there is a wide variation in the margin of error allowed in the despatching of pump fuel. One colleague reckons that he does not get as much Shell per litre as he does when filling with ELF, although the latter brand is more expensive. Is this likely and how are the margins of error determined in the pump calibrations?

Trading Standards Officers are responsible for checking this. They used to be called 'Weights & Measures Inspectors'.
