Bat man

6 weeks after buying my 2008 CR-V 2.2 EX diesel, I parked it at Gatwick Airport for a 2-week holiday. When we returned to the car, the battery was completely flat; no lights, no unlocking on the fob, nothing! Rescued by AA. Dealer maintains that battery must have been partially discharged when we parked the car as battery and 'background' usage (alarm mainly) all normal. I've monitored the battery since return from the dealer and I am in no doubt that the battery was fully charged when the car was parked. Daily usage maintains 13 volts in the battery and we had a 35 minute uninterrupted drive to Gatwick before we parked up. I can only assume that the alarm went off a lot while it was parked (the North Terminal Long stay Car Park is not directly under the flight path although I do know that low flying aircraft can activate alarms). Is the alarm very sensitive? Can it be adjusted? It's annoying that there is no way of de-activating the alarm with the doors locked. My dealer initially informed me that this was a well-known problem with the diesel CRV (implying that I should have known this when I bought it) but Honda says otherwise. Any other of your contributors suffered this problem? Any feedback on causes?

I had a current model CR-C 2.2iCDTI for 7 months and left it for 4 weeks once and 5 weeks another time with no problem. But I did make sure I switched off the radio before switching off the ignition. If this doesn’t work for you, get and fit a www.batterybrain.co.uk
