Something nissing

My wife is nagging me about the mpg of our 2009 Qashqai 2.0dci. I told Nissan we were disappointed compared with our 2001 Scenic 1.9dci, but got a non-committal response. The computer is indicating 36.7, as it has for the past few months, even though my wife did a 1,000 mile round trip to France recently, taking it very steadily. Or is there a special way to drive it to get the best mpg? Our Scenic is due to be taxed when we are away on holiday. Am I right in thinking we will have 2 week's grace to do this when we get back?

Here is a video Eco Driving lesson: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/renault/renault-cl.../ On test, I got 55.1mpg out of the new Mitsubishi ASX 1.8 DI VVT. That's exceptional. But I got 43.1mpg out of a Qashqai 2.0DCI driving normally. You can re-tax your Scenic on the Internet via www.dvla.gov.uk while you are away. The DVLA can access its insurance and MoT details. Alternatively you can re-tax it before you leave, but you might lose a month's tax that way. I did when I re-taxed in March, and had to pay at the higher 2009/2010 rate rather than the 2010/11 rate.
