In March I wrote, “My 23-year-old daughter is to return to car ownership after four car-free years as a student. The usual advice from all quarters was steering her towards a 4 or 5-year-old Fiesta, given her budget, and the likely mixture of city driving plus intermittent 100-mile runs to parents and pals. Presumably petrol rather than diesel? But which engine to go for? You suggested a Fiesta 1.25 as cheap to run, cheap to insure and decent to drive. We followed your advice and bought a 2004/54 Fiesta 1.25 3 door LX for £3,600 with 12-month warranty from the local Ford main dealer in Shrewsbury. Maybe a bit over the odds, but at least it should be a clean and reliable motor. She is very pleased with it, and to be mobile again.

Excellent news. Thank you for letting me know. That model Fiesta also scored well for low warranty claims in Warranty Direct’s reliability assessment for cars more than 3 years old.
