Clever Tever

I just thought I'd let you know that I've also had a Teves Mk 60 ESP failure. Having read the forum on honestjohn I noted that I met the 'criteria' (i.e, under 5 years old, under 60, 000 and full main dealer service history) on my 2005 2.0 GT TDI MkV Golf. Armed with this info I went to Newbury Ridgeway VW where, after diagnosis, they confirmed I needed a new ABS Pump that would cost £1,600. I pointed out the growing numbers of problems reported online to be advised that “less than 1% of cars” are affected and that VW would make “a contribution.” They then came back and told me the “repair would be undertaken and we'll discuss the price afterwards.” I rejected this as I wasn't prepared to commit without knowing the final cost. After more haggling and a chat with the dealer manager about VW strategy and brand loyalty I was advised they would carry out the full repair at no charge to myself. Maybe I was lucky but I’d suggest that if people go to VW armed with the evidence that it's a widespread problem and are prepared to stand their ground they may get a favourable result. I've subsequently informed VW of my disappointment that their first line of action is to try and recoup costs on what is now a widespread problem rather than hold their hands up and repair FOC.

You were fortunate. But you also had to fight for something you should not have had to fight for. VW asks that anyone with this problem emails: volkswagencustomerservices@volkwagen.co.uk
