Sweetest seven

I need a good-sized 5-seater with occasional seats for 7 to replace my VW Touran. We have test driven both the Ford S-Max and Hyundai Santa Fe but cannot decide. Which is better in terms of refinement (wind / road noise) and residual value / running costs?

These are completely different vehicles. The S-Max is a refined car: the best handling 7-seater there is. The Santa Fe is an SUV. Now, with the 194PDS 2.2 R Type diesel, a very good one, but still an SUV. Residuals aren't bad. On 21st May I saw a 3 year old with 50k miles make 56% of its original list price at auction. It may outlast the S-Max, but it isn't as refined and will use more fuel.
