Just diesing
I refer to you an item in Sundays lifestyle regarding VAG`s 2.0 litre
Diesel engines. For the benefit of someone who is non technical could you explain the benefits of the PD engine against the similarly sized CR engine, is it economy, performance, efficiency, reliability or is it just something new and different and needs to be sold?

Pumpe Duse engines have a relatively low pressure diesel pump and achieve high pressure injection at the injectors themselves. The injectors are camshaft driven. Common Rail uses a high-pressure pump to achieve the high pressure and electronic piezo injectors to control the flow. This is more precise and quieter, but the pump is more vulnerable to misfuelling and there have been quality problems with the piezo injectors themselves.
