Inside leg

I have a handicapped daughter who travels in the rear passenger-side seat with me as the only other occupant. I have to have at least a medium size car to ensure that she cannot reach me to interfere with my concentration and compromise safety. My last two vehicles have been Saab 9-3s, currently the Sport Tourer (for the flat load facility). I am therefore interested in the measurement that is shown in car mags and brochures between the rear seat back and the back of the front seat. My question:- Is there a standard for the position of the front seat relative to its fore and aft movement when this measurement is taken and is it safe therefore to compare these measurements between different publications?

I can't answer this. I can tell you that among normal sized cars you'll find the biggest legroom in the back of the current model Skoda Superb. Many modern MPVs, such as the Ford S-Max and the Peugeot 5008, have sliding rear seats as well as sliding front seats. Even smaller MPVs like the Ford C-Max have a system whereby two of the rear seat slide back semi-diagonally, providing more legroom at the expense of luggage capacity and a centre rear seat.
