Over 75?

I have a Rover 75 diesel estate auto. It has done 120,000 miles. The gearbox has failed and would cost about £2,000 to replace. It's a lovely car but I'm very worried about spending serious money when so many other things could go wrong. Any suggestions about whether to replace the gearbox or how best to dispose of the car (preferably for some cash).
