Rio tainted

Please can I have your opinion on what I consider to be an absolutely farcical situation. I went along to a KIA dealer with my ex-wife to look at buying a new Rio and taking advantage of the scrappage scheme incentive. The car in question that she was looking to scrap is a Volvo 850 that is 15 years old, of which we have had it for 10 years. I understand that to qualify we must have a car that is at least 10 years old, and must have owned it for at least a year. In May of this year I transferred the car from my name to her name as we were parting but still residing at the same address. The KIA dealer has told us that as ownership has changed it is unable to apply this scheme.

Sadly, I'm afraid that was one of the government rules of the scrappage scheme (that now ends on 31st March). The car to be scrapped has to have been owned by the person applying for scrappage for a year.
