Back to frontal

Is it true that it is no longer recommended to rotate the wheels (i.e. front to back opposite corners, etc.) to even out the wear of the tyres? I use to do it relatively regularly in the "old days" but I now have an 18 month old 15,000 mile Citroen C6 which is a powerful front wheel drive car whose front tyres are down to 4mm whilst the back tyres are almost unworn. I was told by one of the High street tyre fitting chains that they don't recommend it anymore but couldn't give me a good reason.

It may not have 5 identical wheels anyway. Current Tyre Safety Council advice in your case is to put the back tyres on the front and the new tyres on the rear. That makes the car more stable when braking in the wet and helps ensure all tyres get worn out by their
used by date of 6 years.
