The light on
I want to take you up on a response you gave to a reader. Just as with motorbikes it has been shown repeatedly that there are fewer fatalities when cars have lights on, this is of particular benefit to pedestrians. I think your honest answer should have referred to this and I hope the Telegraph's euro sceptic views did not influence you.

You seem to be putting words into my mouth that aren't mine. I’m in favour of separate or LED DRLs because they warn of a car's presence without distracting or blinding anyone. I’m against drivers using Xenon dipped beams as DRLs because their brightness hides the presence of motorcycle headlights and both distracts and blinds other drivers, especially when the car mounts a speed hump, or is overtaking on a motorway and fries your eyes with its Xenon beams dipped directly into your door mirror.
