Winter tyres and wheels

My wife has just bought a `58 Reg Mazda 3 Takara (Takora?) 1.6 with 205-55 R16 tyres on alloy wheels.

With all this Global Warming producing so much snow she wants to have winter tyres for the winter season.

I understand that the R16 wheels are "oversize", and the tyres "medium" profile.
Assuming that we get her a second set of wheels for the winter tyres, what diameter wheels should we be getting, and what size should the winter tyre be?
I have looked in your FAQ section to the best of my ability, but not found an answer.

The same will be okay for this car. But a set of 15" steels and 60 or 65 profile winter tyres will be cheaper. May need different wheel bolts for steel wheels.
