What's the best affordable low emissions car?

As a driver I am very concerned about our planet but I cannot do without a car as I live in a very rural area. At the moment I am running a 2012 Renault Clio 1.5 dCi. What would be the best low emission car and reliable car for me to own? I have a budget of £5000 to £6000.

You could buy an electric Renault Zoe with your budget. You may only be able to get 90 miles from a charge, though, and you'll have to factor in a £70-per-month battery lease on top of the purchase price. You may be better searching for a frugal, efficient petrol car. A Hyundai i10 1.0 returns 60.1mpg and emits 108g/km CO2 under official NEDC tests.
