Is the Ford Powershift gearbox reliable?

Has Ford sorted the problems with the Powershift gearbox? An automatic used Focus estate ticks most of my boxes but I am worried that the Powershift could land me with some big bills?

Yes. Ford has solved the problems with the 6-speed dry clutch Powershifts by ditching them. They are replaced in the new Fiesta by 6-speed torque converter automatics and in the new Focus by 8-speed torque converter automatics. Do not buy a Ford with a 6-speed dry clutch Powershift transmission.
