Great car to drive

It's a shame that so many people insist on comparing
the Civic Hybrid with the Toyota alternative, as it's
actually a very good car in it's own right.

It's certainly not the slouch that some report it to be,
in fact with the CVT transmission you have to be
careful to keep your speed down in restricted
areas.

It's a smooth ride, and quieter than my previous
Accord auto. Surprisingly, it is wider than the Accord,
mainly down to the large mirrors (which can be folded
in by the press of a button).

Fuel economy is good , so far I am getting between
49 - 55mpg, depending on type of road and driving
technique.
There is the danger of spending too much time looking at
the economy gauges :) Apart from that, you wouldn't
know you were driving a hybrid.

I haven't found it to "wallow" on corners as some have
reported, unless you have a lapse of concentration and
think you are driving a Porche.

OK, it's not the car for those who like to tell everyone
how quickly they can get from A to B, but it certainly
holds it's own on the open road. Very comfortable too,
more so than my Accord executive was.

There have been concerns about the IMA battery.
These are mostly on the US models, and don't affect those
in the UK. Either way, the Hybrid components of the car
are covered by a comprehensive warranty:


8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, for
03YM to 10YM.
5 years or 90,000 miles, whichever comes first, for
11YM onwards


All in all, a very nice car in my opinion. It's just a shame
they stopped making them in 2011

Oh yes... only £10 a year to tax (at time of writing)


Economy wise, on a recent trip from Essex to Oxford
and back, I achieved 55.1mpg going,and 56.9mpg on the
return trip. Overall on a three day break, I averaged
53.8mpg on a mileage of 283 miles.

Just to add.. In the review on here it says......"Then when
you are stopped in Drive, the motor shuts down, so you are
forced to apply the parking brake or footbrake to stop the
car rolling back on a hill......"

Wrong !!

The engine only shuts down when you have your foot
on the brake. So you are unlikely to roll backwards.
As soon as you take your foot off the brake, the engine
re-starts.
