Overall reliability

Good acceleration, economy, equipment and road holding.

We bought car April 14 as a retirement present to ourselves, after comparing many, many cars over a 4 month period.
Final 3 being, Fiesta125, Polo 1.2 110 bhp, Audi 1.4 122bhp.
The Fiesta had the spec I wanted. The 2 VW group cars had to have serious money spent on them to achieve the same spec. Then, when purchase price entered the equation, it was no contest. The Polo would have cost £3600 more, the Audi £4200. Therefore they would devalue far more than the Ford at ANY time in the future. (I paid £13100 for the Ford).
The Audi had the best build followed by the Polo. All three cars drove similarly, performance being the same across the board. The Ford slightly more sure footed and coped with uneven surfaces better, Audi being second. Ford the best access, best (adjustable) boot, PLUS a spare tyre. The tyre was NOT available to the Polo or Audi.

If people are not getting the economy they expected, they do not understand how it's geared.
The gears are long legged and so I drive it accordingly, LIKE A DIESEL, with the added bonus, that unlike a diesel, I can, if I want performance, rev its head off. Hence I achieve overall 51 mpg. For a warm hatch that's unbelievable. Overall 5 stars.
