Paris Motor Show 2016: All-new Kia Rio to get debut

Published 24 August 2016

Kia will premiere the all-new Rio at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The new model has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor so should have a more spacious cabin, plus Kia promises it will come with the latest safety and connectivity technology. Prices are to be confirmed, but expect to pay around £10,000 for an entry-level model.

There are no details about engines or equipment levels yet, but in all likelihood the new Rio will get the latest 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol seen in the Hyundai i20, along with a 1.4 CRDi diesel. Kia claims the new model will provide “more assured and engaging ride and handling characteristics” than the outgoing car.

An interior sketch has been released and shows a neat, clutter-free layout with a large touchscreen system and simple control layout. The sketch also shows an automatic gear selector, so the production car should have an auto option. The new Rio will go on sale in 2017.
