Poor road conditions yesterday evening - Round The Bend
Abysmal conditions for my journey from Norwich to mid Devon yesterday evening. Left 5.30 pm and by the time I had reached Cambridge conditions were very poor with surface water, spray and consequent low visibility. Fog lights a real necessity!

Original intention had been to go A14, M42, M5 but at a service station west of Cambridge I chatted to a truck driver, looking remarkably like Father Christmas, who advised that there were long delays at Kettering and suggested heading south.

Took alternative route A45, A43 then Swindon, M4 and M5. To my relief, once south of Northampton the rain stopped and things became easier. In fact the roads were so quiet A43 onwards that I arrived home not much short of "par" time! Thanks Santa!

PS: I often hear travel reports and wonder how so many accidents occur, then witness idiots driving in poor conditions, such as last night, at high speeds, sometimes not even with lights on! I sometimes think these guys have a death-wish.
