Nationwide Scam - BrianW
Found one in my inbox when I got to work today.
Ther give-away is that it starts "If you bank with Nationwide".
We don't.

HJ, thanks for the warning.

I do hope this doesn't put anyone off banking with Nationwide. I have, and have had, accounts with several banks and building societies and, in my experience, Nationwide is by far the best in almost all most respects. If they would 'up' their interest rates slightly for electronic banking I would close my other accounts!

Sorry for the 'plug' but they deserve some positive publicity to counteract the nuisance that the scam must be causing. Incidentally, I have no absolutely connection with Nationwide other than as a satisfied customer.

" Money Box spoke to one woman, Andrea from Cleveland [tonyblairland], who had lost £6,000 from her account after falling for a phishing scam. "You just feel so stupid. You feel that you have been taken in by a con that should have been glaringly obvious," she said.

A spokeswoman for APACS explained that UK bank customers have not being held liable for money siphoned out of accounts as a result of phishing attacks. "Banks have taken the loss," she said. "

Nationwide Scam - Mapmaker
These 'banks' are often a favourite with the Nigerian Scam letter brigade. They write to you (after you've built up a good relationship) and they invite you to look at the £10,000,000 sitting in the account, which you can then see. They then ask you to pay in £5,000 (release fee) which you can do by wire, and then see it sitting in the account as well. Oh and then some more money... and some more... Some of these look really good too.
Nationwide Scam - Mark (RLBS)
I think this thread has gone far enough. You have been warned about the scams, don't fall for them.

I'm not sure how many times people need telling about the "nigerian" scams or the "give me your bank/credit card details" scams, but given the number of fools still falling for it, I guess that point hasn't been reached.

Nonetheless, this is a motoring forum and whilst I shall leave it here for reference, it really isn't the approriate place for discussion.
