Any one of my 5 Citroen CX - especially the white one to Swiss spec.
Not maybe as good as the Maserati Citroens - but absolutely ******* magic to drive and never had even a cough from any of them.

Anything being driven by Richard Hammond from Top Gear - roll on 8pm! ;-)
Seriously though, it has to be a TVR Tuscan in that two-tone lilac/silver colour.... or of course Polo!
|
And now 8pm has rolled around, is it any coincidence that they're discusssing this very subject on Top Gear??
Their favourites are (allowing for me not listening properly!):
Ford GT40 (Isn't that the one with the silly stripe up the bonnet?)
Aston Martin DB7
Some green Lambourghini thing,I think.

I managed to do without a dose of Clarkson yesterday evening (curiously, I slept unusually well last night), having heard him on Desert Island Discs earlier in the day. He declared the Ferrari F40 to be his all-time favourite car -- by implication the best looking in his estimation, I guess.

All,
Lotus Esprit mentioned above has to be a contender.
But that car was one of three, all from Guigiaro, all with very similar lines. Today, the Esprit is an ownable example of the 'best-looking car'. The BMW M1 is ownable only for the longest of pockets. The third can be bought for pocket money, £300-600, the Isuzu Piazza if you can recognise it. Flawed construction, engine not in supercar field, suspension doubtful, but for looks it's up there with Ferrari.

I'd have to go Jaguar XK-SS. Designed as a way to off-load no-longer race competitive D-Types onto the road. Factory burned down after only a handful had been made. SO impractical- you had to lower the hood to access the petrol cap! But painfully beautiful.

IIRC, earlier in the programme he was asked which car he would like to have on the island with him. When he hesitated, Sue Lawley added, "just to see rusting." JC unhesitatingly then relied, "in that case a Vauxhall of some kind." He then went on to say that if he was to nominate a car just for the aesthetic pleasure of seeing it on the island with him it would be (I think he said) the Lamborghine Miura. As featured in Sunday's show!
