What's causing my Audi A4's emissions problem if not the lambda sensor?

I have an Audi A4 2.0 FSI automatic, registered in September 2004 with 23,500 miles. It went for its annual service and MOT to a local Audi dealer and failed the MOT due to emissions. They said it needed a new lambda probe, which they fitted today. This has not cured the problem and they do not know the answer. Do you have any suggestions please?
