Audi A4 emissions fix - will it impact performance?

I have a three year old Audi A4 with the 2.0-litre TDI engine. As with all owners, I have been contacted by Audi to have a software update made to my car to rectify the "cheat" device over NOx emissions. They claim this will result in no loss of performance, torque or noise levels or fuel consumption.

I am concerned about the software update. What would my position be if I do find that performance, consumption, torque or noise levels have been compromised after the work has been done?

You could refuse to have it done and carry on as you are. Or you could take the risk if having it done that might be ok or might result in a nightmare. So far the main problem has been with Tiguan 2.0TDI 140s.
