Air conditioning condenser damage on Ford Focus

We have a 2015 Ford Focus bought from Ford Direct in February 2016. On one of the few hot days this year we found the climate control system blowing cool rather than cold air. The diagnosis is road stone damage to the condenser which seems possible even though we have only done about 1000 miles. Based on your readers feedback how frequent are these sorts of incidents to air conditioning condensers or under bonnet components?

If the condenser radiator is not shielded, stone damage is moderately common. Have a look.
