My Jaguar XF averages 42mpg - is this unusual?

I have a 2008 Jaguar XF 2.7 diesel I bought with 50,000 miles on the clock. I am averaging 42mpg. I pride myself on getting every mile from a tankful and arriving on time at my destination.

That's good, but not too difficult. I've averaged more than 45 in a Jaguar XJL 3.0D over 200 miles and the average over around 1,000 miles was 41mpg. They are remarkably economical for such big cars. Even the 500PS XFR is capable of 29mpg on the motorway if you keep to 75 on the speedo.
