I'd like to recommend the Skoda Yeti to anyone looking for a small SUV.

With reference to your answer to PS regarding options for small SUVs: I was in the same predicament, needing higher seating for ease of access, particularly on the nearside where kerb heights come into play when exiting. Not doing much mileage these days, longer trips being very spasmodic, I avoided the new diesels with their particulate filters, but was persuaded to test the Mitsubishi ASX and loved it. Not being able to afford a new model, I found a 12-month-old vehicle with 12,000 miles heavily reduced.

However, on looking on the ASX owner forum, I found several complaints concerning high fuel consumption, circa 42mpg measured brim to brim, even though the onboard computer was showing 55mpg. Most problems revolved around regeneration of the DPF, which occurred every 200 miles, dropping fuel consumption to around 25mpg during the regeneration cycle, and interrupted by stop/start engine management in traffic. I then found an email from Mitsubishi to one complainer stating they were issuing a software update to dealers.

I asked my vehicle supplier if this had been carried out but he was unaware of it, so I cancelled the ASX and started looking seriously for a Yeti 1.2TSI, but could not find an SE model in a suitable colour. I eventually found a new stock Yeti 1.4TSI with several extras at around £2400 off list. The performance is incredible; it drives very much like a diesel with loads of torque at low revs, although so far economy is only 35-39 on a run.

That Yeti with the 1.4TSI 122 at a £2,400 discount was a good deal. Well done. I'll note your observations about the ASX in car-by-car breakdown at HJUK. I, too, saw over 55mpg on the meter, but did not drive it far enough to do a brim to brim cross-check.
