Which winter tyres for my Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

My current car is a 2005 Mercedes-Benz C180K auto estate, tyres Michelin 205/55WR16. In snow I have to traverse an 80-yard unsalted incline before reaching the council’s salted highway, otherwise I'm happy with the car. My dilemma - should I fit winter/snow tyres. Will they get me up the incline? Is there a difference between winter and snow tyres? Can you run on winter/snow tyres under normal conditions including motorway for, say, three months? Do I need to buy new wheels? Buy an alternative car?

Current advice is a full set of Continental Winter Contact TS 850s: www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2012-Winter-Tyre-Buy...m

Tyre Reviews thinks that good summer performance too means they can be left on all year round. The 16-inch wheels are the smallest sizes available on the C-Class so no need to replace them.
