Which cheap and reliable car?

I am 25 and I have just passed my driving test in the UK, although I am not a complete novice driver. I'm looking to buy my first car in the UK and I considered Ford Focus 1998-2004 in 1.6 Zetec trim. They're less than £1500 and I wanted to know if these were reliable and cheap to run? Insurance is as I expected for a new driver, so not too bad. I do about 28 miles a day total to and from work.

A Yaris or a Fiesta 1.25 will be more reliable and cheaper to run.
