Can I get car insurance for a seven month trip to Italy?

I have a seven month contract to teach English in Italy and was intending to drive there in my Ford Focus and use it for daily transport to the school in Naples. However, my insurance company tells me that I can only get cover for a 90 day period and cannot get consecutive cover as there must be a gap between such cover periods. Is this correct?

It is true of most direct insurers yes, but a specialised insurer will be able to provide cover. Even with your current policy, the EC demands you are covered to the minimum requirement in each EC country so your insurer has to cover you for that, but not for damage to yourself or to your car.
