What's happened to the GB sticker?

I have seen several vehicles on the road displaying a UK sticker to identify its country of registration whereas I would have expected a GB sticker. Why is this?

The GB vehicle identifier was replaced with the UK sticker on 28 September 2021.

The Government claims that changing the national identifier from GB to UK "symbolises the United Kingdom's unity as a nation" and is part of a wider move towards using the UK signifier.
