Which winter tyres should I buy?

I need to replace the tyres on my five year old Mercedes ML500 that does around 6000 miles per year. It currently has 285/45/R19 on the rear and 255/50/R19 on the front. I would like winter tyres as we live in a remote area but given low mileage find it difficult to justify holding two sets.

My main dealer is suggesting Pirelli Scorpion Ice. Could I run these all year or is a compromise tyre available?

To work well in this sort of size, winter tyres tend to be specialised. Something like Michelin Alpin AP3s, or, as the dealer suggests, Pirelli Scorpion Ice or Pirelli Sotto Zeros (but they are very expensive).

I just don;t know of any all weather in that size. But worth ploughing through www.tyrereviews.co.uk
