Is the dealer responsible for selling me a Mercedes-Benz B-Class with a rust problem?

I would be grateful if you could provide advice on the following issue I am having with Mercedes-Benz. I purchased a B-Class from the used approved scheme five months ago. Recently, whilst washing the car, I noticed rust build up along the base of all four passenger doors. It is evident that this rust has happened before I bought the car. The car was built in late 2006. I have since called the main dealer who has agreed to submit an insurance claim. However, they have mentioned that it will then be down to the headquarters to make the final decision (which was a little surprising to me, considering the car was only purchased recently). Could you give me an advice on dealing with any surprises that the dealer may bring up? The car has a full Mercedes-Benz service history.

You have all the rights here and the dealer who sold you the car has zero rights. He is liable for any faults on the car that could have been developing on date of purchase for six months from purchase, and obviously corrosion was developing on date of purchase. This has nothing to do with whether or not he can claim the costs back from Mercedes-Benz. Take no nonsense from him. Demand your rights, which are here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
